The Simple Past in IRREGULAR VERBS

The affirmative form of Past Simple of irregular verbs is in the second column of the list.
Interrogative and negative forms, irregular verbs comply with the same rules that we have given for regular verbs.

Ex: I bought a car last year.

Did he go to New York last summer?
No, I did not go to New York?

  • Remember that in questions and negative sentences you have to "recover" the infinitive form of the verb. In the case of irregular verbs, this form is not always "recognizable", therefore no choice but to learn well the list of verbs.

  • Also keep in mind that the verb to be is the only one form of singular and plural (was, were) and does not need the aid to the question or negative.

Ex: I was happy last week. / You were happy last week. / They were happy last week.
Ex: Were you happy last week? I was not happy last week. / You were not happy last week. / They Were not happy last week.
