The Simple Past AFFIRMATIVE

In the scond part this Blog, you will find the explination of past simple affirmative.
The past simple in English is equivalent to the indefinite imperfect and past tense of the Spanish past.
We use the past simple to complete actions in the past.



Rules:



  • It is formed by the infinitive of the verb with the ending -ed. This form is the same for all people singular and plural:



Ex: I worked yesterday. / He worked yesterday. / They worked yesterday.

  • There are some exceptions of spelling:

Ex: Verbs ending in -e -d only add: hope - I Hoped; decide - I Decided

  • Verbs ending in consonant + y, change the -y to -i before -ed: hurry - I hurried; study - I Studied.

  • Generally, verbs that end in a vowel + consonant, double the consonant before -ed: shop - I shopped; refer - I Referred
